Centennial Alumni Band

Here’s a chance to play in a once-in-a-lifetime concert ensemble!

The Centennial Alumni Band will close out ΚΚΨ’s official Centennial Celebration Day on July 20, 2019.  A signature event for alumni, this will be your chance to make a mark during the fraternity’s Centennial!

Similar to the National Intercollegiate Band, auditions are now being accepted!

Who is eligible?
The CAB is open to all alumni in good standing in Kappa Kappa Psi or Tau Beta Sigma.  Life Members and Honorary Members are also encouraged to audition! Spring 2019 graduates with good standing in the Fraternity may also audition.  Other interested musicians may also be selected by the conductor to fill some sections.

When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are currently scheduled on Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19, but should not interfere with any major national convention business or events.

Who is conducting?
The Centennial Alumni Band will be rehearsed and conducted by Dr. Joseph Missal, Director of Bands and Conductor of the Oklahoma State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

Is there a cost?
There is no cost to be a member of the CAB, but performers will be responsible for their own travel, lodging and meals.  Performers will receive a free Centennial Day registration and a special edition Centennial Alumni Band polo shirt.

How do I audition?
Due to an expected high interest in participating, we will be asking that musicians submit an online audition, similar to how the members of the National Intercollegiate Band are selected.  Auditions close on May 10, and selected members should be notified by June 1.

Will instruments be provided?
In most circumstances, wind players will be expected to provide their own instruments.  Percussionists will need to provide their own sticks/mallets.

Audition Instructions
You will be asked to submit audio files of two contrasting selections on your instrument. One selection should demonstrate your technical facility, and the other selection should demonstrate your musical sensitivity and phrasing. Percussionists should include a third selection and perform on at least three instruments (timpani, snare drum, and mallets). Selections may be performed with or without accompaniment. The total combined duration of both recordings should be no less than five and no more than 10 minutes. Each audio file should be unedited, with no special effects or processing beyond normalization of volume levels.

Recordings should be submitted in MP3 or M4A format with a file size not exceeding 5-6MB.
